Hi Steve,

No worries, happy to answer.

The event is open to all and the cost will be £40 for BCS members and £80 for non-members.
It is indeed the type of event that BCS has run in previous years but with a QGIS and open (data, software) focus, which is why we thought of OS GeoUK.

It will be fully organised by BCS and we were simply wondering if OS GeoUK could help fund in anyway and also help us to promote the event through the OSGeoUK’s various channels, social media etc.

Do you charge delegates to attend? If so how much? Is the event open to non BCS members?

It sounds like the events that BCS have run for a number of years but with a QGIS focus, is that correct? Presumably BCS will organise? What help would you need from OSGeo specifically?

Sorry if I am sounding difficult on this but I am struggling to understand what involvement you want from us apart from perhaps paying for lunch.

The event will  be held on Wednesday 2nd Nov. We’re hoping to have between 20-30 people there.
Expert presenters will cover topics including cartographic fundamentals, open data, open software, map critique and we will have a hands-on workshop using QGIS.

The BCS organise and run the Better Mapping events (There is also one based on ArcGIS this year) and the OS has kindly offered the venue free of charge.

Any help with the event would be much appreciated; from funding the lunch to helping promote.

Ideas welcome?

I am involved in the organising of a British Cartographic Society event which will be called ‘Better Mapping with QGIS’.
The event will be held at Ordnance Survey HQ in early November. There will be a workshop based on QGIS which will explore its excellent cartographic functionality and delegates will get to learn how to create fantastic maps.

I am writing to this list to see if OS GeoUK would like to help fund/promote the event.
