Thanks Dennis, as it happens there's a call on Monday to discuss a plan for an event in Bristol... Do you want to join? We can review options. Looks like there is an appetite for something big in the UK this year anyway, which is great!
Cheers
Ant

Great idea
Gets us out of London and 2 days gives a “proper” conference feel. Also could be a warm up for a 2026 European event?

Hello. 👋
I would like to propose hosting a 2 [two] day UK FOSS4G event in Leeds this year [2025].
There has been talk about us organising another major conference since Edinburgh 2019. I believe that Edinburgh was very well organised and will use this event as a measure for a successful conference.
Leeds is ideally located within the UK and not as expansive for delegates compared to London.
I have been talking to Horizon Leeds https://horizonleeds.co.uk/ who would be able to accommodate 220 delegates over two days.
Horizon Leeds costs £40 + vat per delegate per day which includes full catering.
I aim to make the tickets available for £100 (Edinburgh 2019 was £80)
Horizon has the benefit of a large auditorium which seats all delegates for the opening / closing notes. The auditorium can then be split into 2 for smaller sessions sections for the afternoon, or morning.
All benefits generated from Horizon Leeds are given to the NHS! I think this is quite an important aspect.
LNER mainline tickets are discounted %25 for delegates.
The venue has state of the art digital equipment. I particularly like the idea that there are three big screens in the common area which we can make available for sponsor presentations.
Here a short video from the venue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XYelGPmUwI
I believe that a Wednesday/Thursday in late September / early October works best for a UK conference. Edinburgh was Wednesday/Thursday 18th/19th September 2019. We should not clash with the European event in Mostar in July or Auckland in November. But we need time to get organised and organise a great conference.
Sponsoring brackets should remain the same but should be simplified. £3000 Gold; £2000 Silver; £1000 Bronze.
I am looking forward to your feedback and hope to discuss this further in a meeting soon.
Best,
Dennis Bauszus
