Thanks for your interest; I have contacted the dev teams this week; and will organise for discussions next week. You are of course welcome to help out :-)
So far I have managed to contact most groups; still looking to hear from open layers "wps client" rep - as I would like to see more clients into the mix.
I will also caution for the wms-shoot out experience is that it is very easy to try and take on too much. With open source projects volunteer effort goes into the project; and you have to be careful that any activities like this are productive (in real hard coding terms) and not a distraction or off topic. So anything we can do to make participation easier will be very helpful.
