Johan,

   Have you looked at the mapserver doc on symbols: 
http://mapserver.org/mapfile/symbology/construction.html ?  There is one just 
above the Examples section that do what you want.

   And there's some good info at http://umn.mapserver.ch (see the section on 
Symbols)
