Hello Kai,
When we had similar problems to receive pdf-files which should look like the map in the browser mapframe before, we played around with the PROCESSING parameter. The OUTPUT parameter didn't help us neither. In our case the solution was to use the processing parameter for the browser display an not to use it while print generation. So we switch the mapfiles like it is described according to the resolution switch.
Hopefully this could be a hint to you.

You mean you made it somehow to integrate 24bit pngs in the Mapbender-Print?
Great, but what exactly did you do?
Well, at "WMS Gui Enstellungen" in Mapbender I choose "image/png; mode=24 bit".
In the WebGIS it looks fine but in the print everything else than that.
How did you define the OUTPUTFORMAT?
I tried it with:
MAP
NAME 'luftbilder'
STATUS ON
IMAGETYPE PNG
EXTENT 3595000 5904140 3621500 5919000
UNITS METERS
SIZE 500 500
IMAGECOLOR 255 255 255
SHAPEPATH '/home/deichbau/daten/luftbilder'

END
....but the result is not what I want.
