msDrawLegend(): Memory allocation error

That's an obscure error, really should never happen as the heights array is only
a few bytes in size. What version, platform, etc? How many layers are you using?

I try to draw a legend but MapServer bails out with the error message: 
 
msDrawLegend(): Memory allocation error. Error allocating heights array. 
 
The LEGEND key looks like:

#
LEGEND
  KEYSIZE 18 12
   LABEL
    TYPE BITMAP
    SIZE SMALL
    COLOR 0 0 89
  END
  STATUS ON
END
 
Can anybody help me to solve this problem.
