Hi everyone,

I just started using mapserver, so please accept my apology if the questions is too simple and basic.

I have installed mapserver 3.6.0 and itasca demo dataset. Installation seems OK. But when I looked the result via browser (mozilla, konqueror, IE) all I got in MapServer Demo Interface page is a black map with some feature on its right side (refresh/query, browse map, query feature, and so on). I could click on the map and the mapserv perform an action. However, the result is still same, nothing there, only black.

I compiled mapserv in RedHat 7.1, using its library for jpeg, freetype, png, and gd (version 1.8.3.7). I just straightly compile (./configure and then make) and then put it on Apache web server as I just would like to see the result. When I configure it, it says:

  using GD (-DUSE_GD_PNG -DUSE_GD_JPEG -DUSE_DG_WBMP -DUSE_GD_TTF) from system libs

I convert gif files of demo dataset (under graphics and symbol) using convert utility from ImageMagic. Then I have changed name of gif files within demo.map file to point to converted png files. I looked at files using gimp and they seems OK.

I looked archived of this mailing list and someone said that I need to set and compile the mapserver executable to use GIF OR PNG at compile time. But I couldn't find anything on ./configure --help that helps me to set this up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Zuki
