Same problem here with a raster in
coord. system X (WGS84) re-projected with "on-the-fly projection" in the
project having coord. system Y (WGS84 UTM30N). 

The black (green in my
case) "triangles" around the raster cannot be made transparent and the
Value Tool says "out of extent" when the mouse is over those triangles.
