I have tested two versions of Qgis - one is self compiled from the
current git master, another is official rpm packege 1.8.0 from
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Application:/Geo/ . Both
behave the same way under Gnome3. Libtool and its libraries seem to be
fine, distribution clean. Perhaps libltdl is trying to open some
nonexisting librarary ?
