Just to avoid clashing version numbers. 2.0 is the release, 2.1 is the
version number that development version has and that's going to be released as
2.2 and so on. So we'll never again run into the situation where you want to
install a release and the system claims you already have it or even something
newer, because of a development build you installed meanwhile already used it.
That's all.

What was strange was that we released 1.7, then switch master to 1.9.90 to
prepare 2.0, but went back to release that as 1.8, after releasing switch to
1.9.0, but skipped that to release for 2.0. Someone who installed 1.9.90
would never have got updates before the release of 2.0 without manually
removing the allegedly newer version. That should only be required now if you
wanted to go back from the development version to the current release.

To me the actual numbers are irrelevant, it's just important that they are
monotonically increasing and that includes the development versions.
