If it helps the geotools project has taken steps to automatically replicate to an "official" github fork.
This allows us to keep track of the newer generation of developers who are only going to make use of services like github; so we can at least watch them work.
The geotools developers can still do things like grab their changes; and apply them back to our osgeo svn using "git svn dcommit".
If there is interest; perhaps something could be set up for all the osgeo svn projects? You would need to talk to Justin Deolivera to sort out the technical details of how it was done.
One nice thing is that if it was done across the board we could actually have them all in the under an "OSGeo" page on github.
By the same token I am holding on to a google plus "OSGeo" page; in the hopes of being able to share it with the marketing committee. Automatically bridging new posts to Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus would be a good way to reach out to the newer generation.
Cheers,--
