[OSGeo-Conf] FOSS4G 2012 Call for Hosting

Indeed, as Cameron suggests, having some continuity each year would be good.
Other organizations (AWRA comes to mind) take an approach where the main
AWRA office manages the logistics of the conference, including web site,
registration, etc, and the local organizing committee works with them to
specify the venue and general plan. Then AWRA takes over and makes the
contract with the venue and sets up the excursions, AV equipment etc. This
way you don't have to find a completely new local committee each year with
all the expertise of managing the financials AND the technical matters of a
conference. Excess funds + risk stay with the main office each year.
Anyway, that's one model that I see a lot that seems to work that seems to
be conducive to outside help coming into a new locale and helping run a
conference there. There are probably other models that could be just as
effective.
