OSGeo news and events are actually controlled by you: you can draft the 
news item yourself (include image files [hint: your FOSS4G logo with 
ribbon]) and the exact text as you want it to appear) and then send that 
through an email to news_item at osgeo.org  Then the OSGeo news team 
(several volunteers) post that item to: the osgeo.org news & events 
sections, Twitter, and Announce list.

Once you get this domain ready it would be great if you could submit a 
news item for this.

Already joined!  Very happy and proud to help bring FOSS4G initially to 
Africa in 2008 and then for its glorious return this year, which will 
create amazing momentum for 2018!  I have noticed that this mailing list 
has been quiet though, I'm hoping it kicks into action soon :)
