Thanks for the swift reply, Till.

On setting an amount to request:

Do regional conferences set a benchmark around ‘we want to offer N travel
grants’ and then work funding backward from there? For example ‘we want to
offer 10 scholarships, needing X for registration and up to Y for travel,
making $Z funding’

or go the other way - ‘we expect to have $Z funding, so we can offer N
scholarships’?

We have a committee meeting Friday, we can discuss an amount to ask from
OSgeo then.
