Dear Michael,

thank you for sharing these data. I believe they show the need to host the conference in other geographies. Even though I may not be able to attend.

Paul, for you I would expect reaching Prizren to be a bigger challenge than reaching Belém. If OSGeo indeed intends to reach globally, there will always be locations challenging for some.

Regards.

Each conference has its own tab with each team's data. While each tab has variation, we've been able to generate some useful summary statistics and we've shared the spreadsheet with any LOCs that are interested. Equally, the individual tabs give you the specific information for individual conferences.

Secondary cities are nice (I live in one, it sounds a lot like Belem!), but there are tangible costs to travelling to and from them.

>>> Indeed Brazil has regular national/regional and local open source geo conferences, but it has been done scattered in the Brazilian territory and with a well defined niche. There is no such event like FOSS4G to embrace all niches in one big event. So, we see it as an opportunity t as we have a strong "FOSS4g" community (QGIS, R, OSM, and so on).
>>
>> I think this is really key. As long as the local community and near regional community is strong, it will be a great conference. Do we have a rep from Florence on the list? What amount/proportion of attendance was non-European in 2022? My “rule of thumb” numbers in my head are very old now.
>>
>>> To reduce risks and being competitive with other events we have in our plan making a good articulation with all brazilian players that works with or promote geo* events, like governmental agencies (IBGE, INPE, EMBRAPA) or scientific groups (SELPER) and even from the private sector like MundoGEO.

>> That’s really awesome! If there’s an involved local committee (both right on-site and also in-country) and (most importantly) a committee Chair who is prepared to have “the experience of a lifetime” (in all senses (ask any former chair)) then this should be a great event.
