Dear All,
Nikos and all the editors of our newsletter http://www.geoforall.org/newsletters/ have been doing amazing job of sharing news/updates from all of us, but as we have grown bigger there are many things happening which are not being send to the newsletter. For example, i am aware of excellent Missing Maps mapathons that our colleagues have organised recently for the OSM geoawareness week but none of them are send to the newsletter.
Can i please request everyone who are doing these kinds of excellent events to please take a bit of time to write a short paragraph (which few pictures if available) and email Nikos and the editor team.
Also if you have any updates on new courses, developments , workshops, funding success, any happy news of students winning prizes etc please email them before the 24th of every month to Nikos so it will be in the next monthly edition of our newsletter. Our newsletters are widely read by the wider geocommunity, (and also archived in the website) so it is an excellent opportunity to share developments with the wider community.
Also from this months newsletter, Nikos has put in a section welcoming new members which is excellent idea. So on behalf of the community, let us warmly welcome our colleagues from the newly established labs of our network at University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (Switzerland) ,Aoyama Gakuin University ( Japan) and Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand).
As the aim of these newsletters is also to promote Free and Open Source Geospatial Software to new users and communities, it be a good to highlight one software from OSGeo Live in each edition of the newsletter so the wider geocommunity (esp. educators) are aware of the excellent resource of OSGeo Live and amazing software that are available for teaching needs. We can rotate it from DesktopGIS, Browser Facing GIS,Web Services,Data Stores,Navigation and Maps,Spatial Tools,Domain Specific GIS etc in each month's newsletter. Anyone from the community willing to be the main contact for this? This will be a really great opportunity to spread the word of different OSGeo software to the wider community.
Again thanks to all of our editors for the volunteer work with this newsletter initiative to bring us all close together for building more collaborations.
Best wishes,
Suchith
