Ed,
Sorry, I don't see any obvious reason for a problem. I will note that
output to compressed TIFF from gdalwarp is not currently working.
It is possible the problem could manifest as a hang, though I haven't
seen that.
If you can provide me with a file, and a commandline to reproduce the
problem I would be happy to look into it.
