Konstantin,

Currently OGR is "axis unaware" which does cause a number of problems.  It
is something I would like to see fixed, but is a substantial effort and I
don't know when I will get to it. If someone else is willing to make a
substantial effort on this task, I would appreciate input into the approach
taken.
