[GeoNode-users] Base layer is not visible on thumbnail of the uploaded content

Hi Naresh

  * When we delete the layer/map the corresponding thumbnail is not deleting from the server.

Hadn’t noticed that, but just confirmed it on our site. I suggest you add this as an new issue<https://github.com/GeoNode/geonode/issues/new>. I can’t see how it would have any impact on users, but it’s messy and should be cleaned up.

Dear Jonathan,

Thanks a lot for detailed explanation.

It may be good , this kind of functionality may be implemented in newer version of GeoNode, since with out base layer the thumbnail does not looking good, user has to manually set

When we delete the layer/map the corresponding thumbnail is not deleting from the server. How to delete thumbnails in case of deletion of layers/maps

Hi Naresh

This has been an open issue since 2015. Here is a bit more explanation:

Also some notes from our own user guide:

  * Your browser caches images, so the thumbnail may not appear to change. Refresh the page with a ‘hard reload’ (Ctrl + Shift + R on Chrome, see instructions<https://www.getfilecloud.com/blog/2015/03/tech-tip-how-to-do-hard-refresh-in-browsers> for other browsers).
  * Please be patient, as larger datasets may take several minutes to display the first time. The system builds a tiled image cache for new layers, so subsequent rendering is virtually instantaneous.
Finally, if all else fails and you have access to the server you can create a thumbnail ‘manually’ and FTP it to the uploaded/thumbs folder, overwriting the automatically created thumbnail. To find the filename to use, right-click the thumbnail and select ‘Copy image address’.

Dear Simone,

Thanks a lot for answering my query.

  1. However in case of Map - Thumbail -- when we publish/save the thumbnail is getting generated with the base layer. Please suggest can we do modification in code,
so that when we upload the layer , the thumbnail should be generated with the default selected base layer along with the uploaded content.

  2. Even some times when we click on SetThumbnail, the thumbnail is not refreshing and if we reload the page or click on the some other links the thumbnail get refreshers.
I thinks there is some time delay or refresh problem. How do we over come this issue?

Hi Naresh, that is not possible. The baselayer can only be visible if the client is currently showing a map with it and can send it to the server along with the thumbnail request. This is not available on layer upload.

Dear All,
After uploading the layer, if we click on layers list, the corresponding layer thumbnail base layers are not visible. If we click on the corresponding Layers --> Edit Layer if we click on Set Thumbnail then base layers along with uploaded content is visible in thumbnail

Please suggest how to include the base layers also in thumbnail on upload of spatial data with out manually clicking Set Thumbnail option.
