Hi Magnus

updatelayers command [1] will create a layer for a GeoServer layer
which is still not registered in GeoNode.
As an alternative, importlayers [2] will import shapefiles and
geotiffs to GeoServer and then register them in GeoNode. Basically it
is the equivalent upload process which can be run from the GeoNode
server.
