Importing from ARC/INFO

I have several ARC/INFO vector coverages in PC-ARC format
which I want to import into GRASS 4.0. Unfortunately, my 
PC is not running the UNGENERATE command on ARC.What is
the best way to achieve such a procedure, in particular with
a view to maintaining coordinate registration ?

The GRASS system is running on an RS6000 network under AIX.
