Hi,

I have rebuilt the GRASS 5.3 RPMs and
created a GDAL 1.2.0 RPM and a PROJ 4.4.8 RPM.

http://mpa.itc.it/markus/grass53/rpms/

If sort of functional, I'll go for a 
experimental GRASS 5.7 RPM.
