Hi All,
I have a script that I would like to submit for consideration and review. it
is an interactive script that allows the user to view hyperlinked documents
(only images, for now) by clicking on the vector in an X-term, which
launches an external image viewer (i.e., gimp, eye of gnome, gthumb). The
user supplies the image directory, and column in the attribute table to link
to. The script provides sanity-checking and some informational flags as
well.
I created this script out of the need to link an extensive photographic
archive to sampling station positions, without having to resort to ArcView
to accomplish it. Essentially, it duplicates the 'hotlink' functionality
available in ArcView. I anticipate that the script could be extended to
provide support for virtually any document viewer, i.e., pdf, OpenOffice,
Inkscape, what have you.
I welcome any comments and thoughts on this. You can download the script
from the WIKI at:

Thanks,
~ Eric.
