Initial Comment:
In GRASS cvs 070505 there is a bug NOT present in GRASS 6.2.1.
In GRASS 6.2.1 like any GRASS version you can assign any color to a vector line or vector area.
Now in the last cvs when I press the view button I see all layers but there is an error in GIS.m Ouput if I select a color not black:
Color: can't set color 858993408
Color: can't set color 858993408 (or other numbers for another color)
.....

All vector layers are black !!!

I have this error in GRASS inside X11 and GRASS inside OS X (without X11)

Why ?

This is a new bug
