 OK. I found the bug.

 The installer downloads the NC sample data tarball from the following http
 address: http://grass.osgeo.org/sampledata/nc_spm_07_2007_dec20.tar.gz,
 that is actually unavailable.

 Markus, could you fix it, please (or give me the new address)? Thanks,
