Comment(by cmbarton):

 The trick on sin and sie (spline interval north and spline interval east)
 is to set them to the minimum NS (sin) and EW (sie) distance between
 points. A first run of v.surf.bspline -e will provide a decent estimate of
 this to use. If you set these too large, it will take forever to run.
