p.map p.chart

I am trying to set up a tek43696 inkjet plotter.
To the best of my knowledge I have followed the the instructions in the
installation guide.
edited the list/local
compiled the driver
linked the /dev files

The plotter passes its own test chart
p.select provides me with expected choices
p.chart seems to work with the exception that there is
no output from the printer
the same is true for p.map

any suggestions as to how i can get this printer to work
would be appreciated
