digitizer recommendations please

I want to get a real digitizer to use with GRASS (4.1).
I am disturbed by the number of "my digitizer doesn't work"
messages.  Can anyone give a caveat free brand/model recommendation
(using Sun's, Solaris 1 (ie not really Solaris)).
