Vector layer of current region boundary?

Occasionally, after zooming a raster layer using d.rast.zoom,
I would like to create a vector layer of the outline of the
zoomed region so that I may overlay the boundary on the
original unzoomed raster layer. Does anybody know of a tool
or an easy way to do this? Thanks in advance.
