I'm no expert - I vaguely remember the process as being - place the 
source in it's own directory, running 'gmake4.1' in that directory, 
moving the executable to the $GRASS/etc/bin and then rerunning the 
MAKE.LINKS script

Hope this helps - or that someone who really knows what they're doing can 
correct me   8-)
