I have also compiled GRASS on an SGI and have kept a history of the problems I
had and the changes I made to fix them. However, they are not on the web like
Bart Cosyn's notes. I will make a copy available to you if you think it will
help. If you still have problems (you will run into a few more) feel free to
contact me and I will see what I can do.

I am assuming you have already obtained Bart Cosyn's notes so I won't waste
