Error message in running m.in.e00

[Kjartan Tumi Bjornsson]

I have been trying to import from .e00 in to GRASS using m.in.e00
It starts of asking for all relevant information but then comes up with
the following error message.

Creating region
ERROR: region for current mapset hí@hí@id
       <projection field missing>
       run "g.region"

When I try to run g.region I get the following

ERROR: default region is not set  

I am running GRASS5.0beta8 on a RED HAT 6.2 Linux.
When I run tutorials and sample data everything seems to work, so far
anyway.
I would appreciate any help,
