[GRASSLIST:3833] GDAL Installation Snag

Greetings:

I am running Grass 5.0.pre3 on RH 6.2

I tried to install gdal  but  ran into a core dump when the routine 
could not locate GLIBC_2.2
Is this an additional file that should be in the $GISBASE/lib, bin or 
share/gdal directory

Does anyone have any suggestions??


I wonder if GDAL1.1.7.1-linux would do the trick
