Well, I didn't really get an answer. I did find the GDF Hannover tutorials here:

Which are very good (thought the English translation could use some
polish). I thought that it might be good to work with these documents.
But there is a translation team in charge of this stuff and I haven't
joined that team, nor do I know if they would welcome posting this
information on the web in a wiki or html document.

Also, there was no answer on the problem of CVS access behind DHCP
connections. So it is impossible right now to work on the HTML
documentation (I cannot do this at work of course).
