Hi,
it *is* explained:

g.manual v.vol.rst
"Parameters wmult and zmult allow user to re-scale the w-values and
z-coordinates of the point data (useful e.g. for transformation of
elevations given in feet to meters, so that the proper values of gradient
and curvatures can be computed)."
