Well, this is weird. If I add *-t* ("Do not create attribute table" per
http://grass.osgeo.org/grass64/manuals/html64_user/v.in.ogr.html), it all
works.

I'm guessing this is a bug, so I've filed a report at
http://trac.osgeo.org/grass/ticket/1274.
