[winGRASS] installation problem: can't read "env_database"

Hello,

I have tried to install GRASS on windows following the instructions here:

http://geni.ath.cx/grass.html

I made it down to the point where it says "Run C:\msys\1.0\grass.bat to
start the GRASS GIS Manager".

When I do that, a windows pops up saying "Error in startup script"

Here are the details (sorry if there are typos; I can't copy from the
window):

can't read "env_database": no such variable while executing "set
database $env_database" (procedure "searchGISRC" line 20) invoked from
with "searchGISRC $gisrc_name" (file
"C:/msys/1.0/local/grass/etc/gis_set.tcl" line 1)

I looked at the referenced file, but nothing jumps out.  Any ideas?  Thanks.
