Hi,
Uli and Astrid will remember our meeting with the AJAX tribe at FOSS4G regarding OpenLayers development. There was some discussion regarding which AJAX library to use or whether to not adopt one in order to be more open and flexible later. I would obviously recommend to not adopt one library but do it directly but as I have largely fallen out of actively contributing code this can only come as a side remark.

There is an AJAX related OSGeo mailing list which could be interesting to join. To subscribe mailto:webmap-discuss-subscribe at mail.osgeo.org and find the archives here:
https://mail.osgeo.org/servlets/SummarizeList?listName=webmap-discuss

There is an OSGeo Wiki page (currently still calling for an own project but I think as it is it serves the purpose fine):
http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/AJAX_WebMapping_Project_Request

More fodder:
A painfully more complex issue is being discussed at:
http://wiki.osgeo.org/index.php/AJAX_WebMapping_Vector_Rendering_Design
Currently we sneak around thoroughly addressing this topic by extending Walter Zorn's library but there are more and more related issues. Ideally we can later tap into OpenLayers as rendering engine (it still feels strange to talk of a rendering engine in a HTML framework but this is what is happening).

Best Regards,
Arnulf.
