i believe a more regular release cycle would be good, with an installer which
doesn't require a reboot or a patch mechanism?

not so important IMHO, php is cross platform and i see more general
functionaility being implemented in php potentially which requires an cross
ptatform solutuion
no to say that if you see the need for a .NET admin interface why you
couldn't port
the php across and contribute it to the project

i have absolutely no problem with Autodesk supporting an open source project
(almost?) entirely financially and then offering an commercial IDE which
supports the server development
