Yes, the MapGuide Package (MGP) file is normally created through the Studio
interface. When you create a load procedure in Studio that points to the
source SDF files (you can just load the data at that time as well) you have
the option to create the package (Package Spatial Data from the File menu).
It is at this time that it will build the XML files and package them in the
zip format so you can load them on the server via admin if you want. The
more normal way to load data would be to do it directly through Studio
without creating packages. Manually editing any XML files should not be
necessary.
After you load Studio, run through the exercises in the Getting Started
guide in the C:\Program Files\Autodesk\MapGuideStudio2007\Help folder.

Andy,
I don't have Mapguide Studio in order to create this MGP package. But I know
that the MGP file is simply a .zip file which contains XML files and data,
SDF files or images. I have loaded my package through the Admin page
successfully without errors. Is there any other way to create an MGP file?

It sounds to me like you are not using Studio to load your data or create
packages. Instead, you are reverse engineering the sample package MGP and
it's contained XML files and then editing those XML files directly? Try
loading some data through Studio, either directly or by creating packages
there and then loading them through Admin, to see if that gets you further.

Subject: [mapguide-users] Sample application in PHP - HELP
Hello,
I am trying to create a very simple application in PHP which basically is
going to
plot a UK-IRELAND-FRANCE map using SDF 3.0 data. I am getting this data
initially
from an SHP file and then converting them using FME to SDF. As a basis of my
sample
I use the phpsample that is available from the website. So, I create the XML
files and then
together with the SDFs I create the MGP file. I load that package to the
server and then I try
to view the page, but no map is displayed on the screen, nothing. I think
the data are correct
since I can view them clearly using the FME viewer as SDF 3. It might have
to do with some sort
of scaling that i have to apply like in the parameters <Extends> and
<Bounds> in some of the XML files.
I have attached my package as zip file, please if somebody could try it to
see if it works I would highly
appreciate it. Also if someone knows how to create a simple demo in PHP and
few dummy data please
email me your demo. Thank you in advance.
Dimitrios
