[mapguide-users] .MPG Package

Here's an explanation that might help:

A MapGuide Package file (.mgp) holds a portion of the MapGuide Resource
Repository, similar in concept to the way a Zip file (.zip) holds a
portion of a file system. One difference is that when you unzip a zip
file, you can pick the destination directory. When you "unzip" a mgp
file, you cannot pick a destination repository folder. This is because
zip files use relative paths, while mgp files use absolute paths.

MapGuide Studio is an application that you can use to create a mgp file
from collection of data and resource files (SHP, SDF, layer definitions
in XML, etc.). While MapGuide Studio can write mgp files, it cannot
read them.

The MapGuide Site Administrator (Manage Packages) provides a way to add
the contents of a mgp file to the site's resource repository. It also
provides a way to generate a mgp file by extracting a portion of the
resource repository and placing it into the mgp file. This is useful
for transferring a portion of a resource repository from one MapGuide
site to another.

Hope this helps.

Bill
