Try the following:
1. Install SP3 for Map
2. rename Autodesk.MapGuide.Studio.Site.dll in your main Map directory
to *.bak
3. replace it with
http://download.osgeo.org/mapguide/patches/mapguidestudio/1.1.0/Autodesk
.MapGuide.Studio.Site.PatchedDLL.zip

I hit go
then get the log in box
I then enter
Administrator for user name
and
admin for password.
That is when I get the can not connect to site popup.
I currently do not have service packs installed on this laptop. Do you
feel that this could be a problem?

Ok and when you click go after entering http://localhost:8008/mapguide
for the site name and asks for the user and password you only get a
can't connect to site error? Do you have SP3 for Map installed?

Under the display manager it says publish to mapguide. Then under the
tool button in that palette I click publish to mapguide. That is when it
asks for the address to publish to site... that is when I am unable to
do so.
I guess what I should do is also lay down some ground work of what I am
trying to do. I have a collection of about 10 drawing with about 20,000
objects in each one. Each one of these objects have a stored value
called gis_id. That value is stored as XData. I then have a MDB that has
that gis_id. I need to be able to easily create a map in mapguide that
when you click on a object you can view that data that is stored in that
record. I don't know if there is a better or easier way to approach what
I am trying to do or not.

The only connection from the display manager in Map is to publish to
mapguide. Are you trying to connect from the Data Connection (FDO)
palette?

Ok, let me start out by saying I am very new to this and I feel
uneducated for even asking this. But I have a copy of MGOS installed on
the laptop and was able to load the sample package fine and was able to
view it. I am now using Map 2007 and trying to connect to the Mapguide
server that resides on the same lap top. When in the display manager in
Map2007 it asked for the URL to connect to the site. When I type in
http://localhost:8008/ it will not connect. I have tried adding Mapguide
mapguide/admin and every combination that I can think of to connect to
it. I have also tried typing in the IP of the laptop with the same error
of "failed to connect to site." If anyone could please try and point me
in the correct direction I would really appreciate it. I have tried to
read as much as I can about this and a lot of it seems to be above where
my experience resides with this. I am trying to learn but I am still
looking for places to read about the more elementary areas of the
program since this is my first experience with Mapguide of any version.
Thank you
