Here is my Autodesk University 2008 Handout where I demonstrated overlay
analysis using the MapGuide API in both Map 3D and MapGuide.

The last page has the PHP version of the code for overlaying two polygons
and then inserting into Oracle with the result (you can do whatever your
wish here, so just ignore the Oracle part).
