[mapguide-users] Custom widget in Task pane

You've got it the wrong way round.

You don't modify Taskpane.html to include your Google Places search UI. You
tell the Task Pane widget the URL of the page (containing your Google Places
search UI) to load.

And that is normally done through an InvokeURL widget. InvokeURL widgets are
referenced through toolbar buttons or menu items.
