[mapguide-users] MapGuide Studio Cannot connect to Site

Hi Keith,

I have to admit that I am a bit stumped. Just to rule out the obvious:

If this works in your web browser:

http://<servername>/mapguide/mapagent/index.html

Then this is what you should enter into the "Site" field of the Studio
Site Authentication dialog:

http://<servername>/mapguide

You might try this in the Studio Site Authentication dialog, setting the
Password field to blank

Site: http://data.mapguide.com/mapguide

User ID: Anonymous

Password:

If Studio is working correctly, you should get a message box that says:

The specified user does not have Author privileges.

If you get the "Unexpected error..." message, that's another indication
of a problem with Studio.

The only other idea I have is to uninstall MapGuide Studio, delete the
contents of the Studio install folder, then reinstall MapGuide Studio,
and reinstall the Studio service pack.

Bill

Hi Bill,

Navigating to that web address in a browser succeeds, as does submitting
ENUMERATERESOURCES, so Studio has a problem then. How can it be
resolved?

Hi Keith,

When Studio fails to connect, one of the first things to try is using
your web browser to navigate to this URL:

http://<servername>/mapguide/mapagent/index.html

where <servername> might need to include the port number. This is
essentially what Studio does when it connects to the server. So if it
succeeds, it means that Studio has a problem. If it fails, it means
that the problem is in the web or server.

Hope this helps.

What URL are you using to try and connect from within Studio? If there
is a proxy server involved have you included the port? Yeah I know these
are dumb questions, but I'm eliminating the obvious.

When you are hitting the mapagent are you doing this on the server ie
via localhost vs Studio which is likely remote and requires the ip
address or servername? If you are using servername can you ping it and
does it resolve?

Anybody got any ideas as to how I can resolve this one? It's proving to
be a big pain. It's got to be a network issue or server setting but how
to identify the precise cause?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Kim, Andy,

Yes, I had seen that post, but as the IP address on our system was never
changed from 127.0.0.1, this doesn't seem likely to be the cause.

Andy

that is what happened to our system, for some reason SP1 resets the IP
address back to 127.0.0.1

Once we edited the ini file back to the correct address we were able to
log in.

It sounds like the problem may be similar to this one that people have
been encountering with MapGuide Enterprise SP1 as discussed on the
Autodesk discussion group.

We've upgraded from 1.0.1 to 1.0.2.

The map agent, site administrator and web extensions tests all work as
expected, but when trying to connect to the site with MapGuide Studio, I
get the message 'Unexpected Error in contacting site URL'.

I had this before with the 1.0.1 install, but adding permissions to the
www folder for the internet guest account seemed to sort that out.
However, those permissions are still in place but the error has
returned. What is also puzzling is that those permissions did not need
to be set on a development server in order for it to work. So something
else is at play. There do not seem to be any messages logged when this
error occurs. How can I identify the cause? Are there some settings in
IIS that need to be changed? Could there be firewall or proxy issues?

The server is a Win2k with IIS 5.0.

Any help much appreciated.
