build a new web map server application using mapserver

Hi all,

I am a new here. I'd like to start from a right point. I greatly appreciate
if you could get me some start point, documentation link or even one single
word that will help me lot. 

My organization is planning to create our own internet map server to replace
ArcIMS that we are using.
