[mapserver-dev] hiding the geometry

Hey devs, mostly Steve though,

is there a specific reason why hiding the geometry wasn't implemented using
gml_exclude_items?

I am trying to write some code for ticket:675, but now have to do some
special things for the geometry attribute versus the other attributes,
which made me wonder why it was implemented like it is now.
