I thought there might be some bodies here who might be interested in
responding to this.

Subject: [ESRI-L] Source / Cost for GIS consulting work?

I posted last evening asking about the source / cost of city street
shapefiles for the entire U.S., but I found I actually missed the mark a
bit on what we need, and my previous subject may not attract the right
kind of replies. We are actually looking for both data AND a
professional GIS consultant to integrate the new data into our existing
set (or re-create the whole thing, if need be).
We are working with ESRI shapefiles on a GRS1980 ellipsoid projection
using NAD83 coordinates, currently at 0.000278 decimal degree
resolution. The area covered is the entire contiguous U.S. We have
layers for state boundaries, county boundaries, US Highways, HOC
(watershed) codes, and point data for lakes and cities. We need to
extend (or replace) this data set to allow display of city streets so
that the end users of the web application we are developing can pinpoint
their exact location.
Can anyone give me a rough estimate of what it would cost us to hire a
consultant who would 1) Find the data needed, and 2) Integrate this data
into our current system (including any necessary transformations) or
re-create the entire data set, if needed? Where would I start looking
for consultants?
The finished maps will be part of a web-based water quality sampling
exercise, so any data sets would need to be licensed in a way to allow
that sort of public use.
Again, my familiarity with GIS is limited, so please forgive any errors
in terminology.
