Folks, 

I would agree with Dave's points on ECW.  However, GDAL does contain 
experimental ECW support on Windows (using the ERMapper libraries) so anyone
using MapServer on Windows and willing to work on the latest CVS code can
utilize ECW with lots of hassle during setup.
