Thanks, Ed. You also responded to someone else's extents question
(earlier) which helped me clarify what the .wld values really meant.
=20
I think that I'm pretty close to getting what I want, thanks to your
advice. All that remains is the scale element (I think). I'm not sure
what this value really represents.
=20
Here are the stats:
.wld
31.240377
0.000000
0.000000
-31.280899
593226.924630
3637755.000000
=20
.map
EXTENT 593226.925 3623812.758425 605731.177534 3637755
SIZE 400 445
=20
I came up w/ these extents based on the approach you explained. And the
.tiff is 400x445 (w x h), hence the SIZE. But now what happens is that
the image appears pretty small w/i my window until I zoom.
=20
If I look at the .tif w/i ArcCatalog, I see that the extents are:
Left: 593226.925000
Right: 605731.177534
Top: 3637755.000000
Bottom: 3623812.758425
=20
If I plug these extents into MapServer, the image takes up the whole
view, but it's not as hi-res as the original .tif. My comparison is
simply an eyeball check: MapServer vs. Photoshop.
=20
Am I on the right track?
=20
I'm trying to look at the extents of the demo bath_mapserver.wld and
.tif that come bundled w/ MapLab's demo, and the numbers don't line up
as I would expect.
=20
Infinite thanks for your help.

You need to make sure that (a) the spatial extents of the image
displayed are the same in both cases and (b) the physical dimensions of
the image in pixels are the same in both cases.
=20
You don't mention the spatial resolution of your image, but here's an
example. You can check your WLD file to see the X and Y sizes of a
pixel. Let's assume they're both 3 meters; in that case you need to be
sure the EXTENT of the image in meters is 3 times the number of pixels
displayed in each dimension.
=20
If you need more info it would help to post your MAP and WLD files.

From: Charlton Purvis [mailto:cpurvis at asgnet.psc.sc.edu]

	Subject: [Mapserver-users] .tiff resolution
I'd like a 72dpi .tiff to be displayed as accurately in
MapServer as it is Photoshop. This .tiff is a product of ArcMap. I
took a .shp and exported it to a map (.tiff, 72dpi). Before I did this
I set the extents manually. I used these extents to fill in my
MapServer extents. A .wld was also a product of the ArcMap .tiff
translation. So I carried that over to my data directory along w/ the
.tiff.
	=20
So I've ended up w/ a .tiff and a .wld, but I must be missing
something since it really doesn't look as clean from w/i MapServer as I
think a 72dpi image should. What can I adjust?
	=20
The MapServer width and height are in proportion to the extents,
and I'm working exclusively under MapLab. I haven't hardcoded anything
under the min/max scale (mostly because I don't have a firm grasp on
what that is actually doing).
	=20
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
